JUST IN: Ethiopia Records First Coronavirus Case

Ethiopia has recorded its first confirmed coronavirus case after a Japanese national in Addis Ababa tested positive for the virus.

The development was announced by the Mayor of Addis Ababa, @TakeleUma who posted on Twitter advising residents in the city to avoid “contact and unnecessary meetings.”

The development was confirmed by Ethiopia’s Health Minister Dr Liya Tadesse in a televised presser. Tadesse said that the patient was in isolation and was stable.
It is also reported that other people who came to immediate contact with the patient have been identified and are being quarantined.
Ethiopia further reports that the 48-year-old Japanese national arrived in the country on the 4th of March. He travelled via Burkina Faso before arriving in Addis.
He was tested for the virus on Thursday and was subsequently confirmed positive.
