Speech title(Creating a People’s Government at a local level)

1. We are fighting for a people’s government at the local level, the activity must be people-centred.

2. The people are the masters, not the central government

3. Fighting for a better life and livelihoods should be a key focus of local authorities

4. Fight against corruption, the party has established an integrity Committee to investigate and follow up on tips from citizen whistleblowing

5. Restoration of the people’s rights including the right to water and right to dignity

6. Councillors must lead the fight in defence of the Constitution. What is needed is Constitutional alignment, not Constitutional amendments

7. Other countries are urbanising while Zimbabwe is ruralising urban centres.

8. We have to change the environment which we are working in, a hostile environment in particular central government interference and economic challenges. A government which disorganises and destabilises organised delivery activity.

9. We have tasked Hon Biti, Hon Mudzuri and their team to deal with all unconstitutional issues affecting local authorities.

10. Local authorities must foster environmental-friendly policies, in particular, the protection of wetlands.

11. Local authorities must plan in advance on expansion and population growth.

12. Local authorities must be innovative, responsive, accountable and transparent while embracing the use of ICTs.

13. Devolution must be devolution in the proper sense as opposed to the perverted version Zanu PF is attempting to implement.

14. The Summit must focus on re-imagining what SMART cities and SMART should look like in respect of public transport, internet connectivity, clinics and schools.
