ESKOM Implementing Stage 1 Load-Shedding
ESKOM, South Africa’s power utility has announced that it will be implementing stage 1 of load shedding.
South Africa has in the past six months experienced a severe electricity crisis, causing power cuts and mine closures.
The power crisis is attributed to a number of issues including heavy rain and flooding that triggered failures at its Medupi coal-fired plant.
Meanwhile, the crisis seems to have improved in neighbouring Zimbabwe. At the peak of the crisis, most of the areas in Zimbabwe would go for at least 18 hours without power.
ZESA, the local power utility attributed the crisis to dwindling water levels at Kariba and ageing equipment at Hwange Power Station.
