"Mthuli & Mangudya Should Admit That Their 'Paper' Is Worthless"

Finance and Economic Development Minister Mthuli Ncube and Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe Governor John Mangudya have been urged to “stop pretending” that the economy has de-dollarised when goods and services are being priced in foreign currency across the board.

A commuter omnibus tout argued that the government’s move to allow some fuel companies to sell their product in foreign currency is an admission that the Zimbabwe dollar is “worthless”. Said the tout:

People have the US dollar, we cannot continue to pretend there is no US dollar anymore when we all know goods and services are being charged in that currency.

The government knows the US dollar is there, that is the reason it has allowed fuel and other companies to sell in foreign currency.

I am sure even Ncube and John Mangudya (RBZ governor) know the local currency is worthless on the streets.

They should simply allow all of us to use it instead of forcing us to use their paper.

This comes when reports indicate that Kombi crews in Harare are now demanding transport fares in foreign currency.

The government has embarked on the revival of ZUPCO, with scores of second-hand buses having been imported from Belarus.

The cheap ZUPCO buses are, however, too few to serve the thousands of people who commute to town daily.
