Kirsty Coventry Impressed By Progress In Refurbishment Of NSS And Barbourfields

Zimbabwe’s minister of Sports, Kirsty Coventry has expressed excitement over the progress in refurbishing the National Sports Stadium in Harare and Barbourfields Stadium in Bulawayo.

She told the Sunday Mail that the target was to meet the recommendations from the Confederation of African Football s possible and she is confident Zimbabwe will be able to do so.

The former world swimming champion said:

I am happy to see the progress that has been made in a week. It shows teamwork, all the stakeholders have come together, helping each other to understand the recommendations from CAF and other international standards.

The priority is making sure the recommendations from CAF are done as quickly as possible, but we also know that this will be done.

She added that the bigger upgrade will be in phases over the next year or two until the facilities get back to where they were depreciation.

Meanwhile, CAF has since said that it has rejected ZIFA’s plea to have the Africa Cup of Nations Qualifier match between Zimbabwe and Algeria played at Barbourfields, Bulawayo saying that Zimbabwe will not be able to make required refurbishments in time for the match.
