Health Minister Given 1-Week Ultimatum To Disclose Information On Coronavirus

Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights have given Health Minister, Dr Obadiah Moyo a one-week ultimatum to ensure that the public is timeously, correctly and adequately informed on the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).

The lawyers’ group wants the minister to make sure that the citizenry is correctly informed on the number of infections recorded in the country and efforts the Ministry has taken to prevent and or contain the virus.

Writing on behalf of ZLHR, Godfrey Mapanga said that the organisation was concerned by Moyo’s “appearance of indifference to the real threat of this deadly virus” when the Ministry was legally bound to publish reliable information to the public of steps it has taken to deal with the deadly virus. He added:

If we do not at least hear from you regarding the steps that you wish to take to fulfil your obligation and the timeline for such steps, needless to mention that…we will consider all the options that are available to us to obtain the necessary remedies to ensure that you comply with your obligations and make information on the Corona virus is available to all members of the public.

Some members of the public accuse the government of concealing information regarding the virus.
