Harare Proposed To Hike Clinic & Hospital Fees By 700% In The Yet To Be Approved 2020 Budget

The City of Harare has proposed to increase hospital and clinic fees by 700% in the 2020 budget which is yet to be approved by the government, ZimMorning Post reports.

The city is reportedly trying to improve service delivery hence the decision to review some of their rates upwards. According to the publication:

The consultation fees are currently pegged at ZWL50, while maternity fees are ZWL120. Should  government approve the proposed hike, maternity fees will skyrocket to ZWL600.

This development will likely result in an increase in mortality rate as pregnant women turn to unqualified mid-wives.

The city is still using 2019 rates before despite the hyper-inflation that rocked the country in 2019.
