Business Leaders Urged To Tell Mnangagwa The Truth About State Of The Economy

Members of Parliament on Monday urged business executives to be honest when meeting President Emmerson Mnangagwa about the parlous state of the economy.

The Zimbabwe National Chamber of Commerce (ZNCC), Confederation of Zimbabwe Industries (CZI), Bankers Association of Zimbabwe, Econet Wireless Zimbabwe and Cassava Smartech Zimbabwe Limited made presentations to the Felix Mhona-chaired Budget, Finance and Economic Development Parliamentary Committee yesterday. Said Mhona:

You come here and tell us the economy is not well, but we are shocked when you meet HE (Mnangagwa), you paint a good picture and say the economy is on the right track. Can you tell us why?

However, ZNCC chief executive officer Christopher Mugaga told the Committee that business executives have been speaking against a lot of things that are not in order since time immemorial.

He said one of the major issues they have raised is the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe’s (RBZ) appetite for printing money which started during the Gideon Gono era and has continued to the present day.
