Top Government Official Grabs Farm And Everything On It

The director in the office of Manicaland Provincial Affairs minister Ellen Gwaradzimba has been dragged to the High Court for allegedly grabbing a 150 hectares farm with export quality macadamia nuts and 60 cattle.

The accused, Terrence Machocho allegedly handed the farm’s owner Lameck Bvurere an eviction notice to vacate the Umzila farm in Chipinge on February 14, 2020, via the messenger of court.

However, Bvurere has approached the High Court challenging the “illegal” eviction notice. In his application, Bvurere said:

The respondent (Machocho) is basing his claim of occupation of the farm in question on an offer letter he attached to the application for eviction and l understand he obtained the offer letter in November 2019.

l am the occupier of Subdivision 2 of Stilfontein of Umzila farm since 2009. I have effected various improvements on the said piece of land including 10 roomed farmhouse, livestock pens, 100 metric ton of maize stack and drilling a borehole.

Zim Morning Post reports that Bvurere has already written a letter to the Lands ministry protesting the eviction. Lately, a number of farms have been grabbed either by the government or by senior government officials.

Some of the individuals who lost their farms are former cabinet ministers, Jonathan Moyo, Patrich Zhuwao and Saviour Kasukuwere.
