'Let’s Back Sikhala To Lead Us To The Promised Land'

A Johannesburg writer and political commentator, Tafi Mhaka asserted that MDC vice-chairperson Job Sikhala has what it takes to lead the opposition party against the government’s “thuggery”.

Sikhala “embodies the formidable spirit of 1999” and retains “that founding tenacity Morgan Tsvangirai and Gibson Sibanda imbued the MDC with”, wrote Mhaka.

While Chamisa is an eloquent speaker, he has made some huge blunders, for example, when he blamed his own supporters after President Emmerson Mnangagwa unleashed soldiers on unarmed protestors in Harare, killing six.

Chamisa has promised Mnangagwa a ‘lucrative pension’ in June 2018 but Sikhala has vowed ‘no injustice or crime against humanity will go unpunished’.

Chamisa is unable to read the palpable frustrations of his followers and engages in pointless grandstanding, all bark and no bite, handing Mnangagwa potent political mileage. Mhaka concludes:

Chamisa could do well to learn from Sikhala’ s leadership style and learn to live and breathe the change people are expected to possibly march and die for.

To be sure, Sikhala is onto something: Mnangagwa deserves no special treatment and must be confronted on many fronts before and after 2023.

Let’s back Sikhala to lead us to the promised land.
