Police Fire Tear Gas To Disperse An Announced MDC Youths Demo

Zimbabwe Republic Police were on Wednesday caught unawares by opposition MDC youths who went into the streets unannounced to demonstrate their frustration over the deteriorating state of affairs.

The demonstrators who were carrying placards some of them branded “ED Must Go” were denouncing President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s administration for failing to address the socio-economic and political crises in the country.

The demo started at the party’s headquarters, Morgan Tsvangirai House which is formerly known as Harvest House, and participants marched downtown towards Copa Cabana where police intercepted them.

Police then fired tear gas to disperse the demonstrators and in the process, vendors and some members of the public were caught in the crossfire.

Nehanda Radio reports that there have been no reports of injuries.

The MDC youths embarked on the demo just hours after Nelson Chamisa had at a press conference in Harare announced that his party was going to take an aggressive stance against the government over “gross negligence” in addressing issues bedevilling the country.

Chamisa said that prospects of dialogue with Mnangagwa were fast diminishing as the president seems uninterested in engaging MDC.

Some of the challenges affecting Zimbabwe include a huge scarcity of fuel, medicines, cash, power and mealie-meal and also there is runaway inflation.
