Wilkins Hospital Under 'Lockdown' As Authorities Investigate Suspected Coronavirus Case

Wilkins Infectious Diseases Hospital located in Harare’s Belvedere suburb is investigating a suspected coronavirus (COVID-19) case involving a visitor who came from China recently.

City Health Director Dr Prosper Chonzi told HealthTimes that they have moved all the patients to Beatrice Road Infectious Diseases Hospital (BRIDH) to pave way for the investigations.

Dr Chonzi informed health sector officials that the country had a ‘scare case’ they were investigating and the Health Minister will make a statement.

Meanwhile, Harare businessman Kuda Musasiwa said the hospital is under lockdown, with armed police preventing people from getting in or out of the facility. Musasiwa posted on Twitter:

Wilkins Hospital LOCKED DOWN: armed police. NO ONE IN or OUT! Suspected Coronavirus is the whisperings all along Belvedere!
