The Herald has reported that three family members in the Chaka area of Chirumanzu died while six others are hospitalised after eating poisonous mushroom on Saturday evening.
The incident was confirmed by Member of Parliament for the area, Prosper Machando who said that one of the deceased left an infant. Machando said:
It’s a tragedy which struck a family here in Chaka, after they consumed poisonous mushroon. I am on the ground as we speak organising funeral and burial arrangements for the deceased, the other six family members are admitted at Driefontein Hospital and we continue to pray for their quick recovery.
There are many varieties of mushroom which grow on their own in Zimbabwe during the rainy season.
It is difficult for individuals who have basic knowledge of mushrooms to differentiate between poisonous and non-poisonous ones since some of them have some resemblances.
The best way to keep one safe is by buying them from trusted sources.
