We Have Survived The Past 2 Consecutive Droughts Because Of Our Huge Command Agriculture Reserves - ED

President Mnangagwa while addressing the Matabeleland Civil Society meeting said Zimbabwe was going into the 3rd year in drought and we only survived the other 2 years because of huge reserves from command agriculture which he personally spearheaded, The Sunday Mail Reports.

Said the president:

This is the third year in drought, the effects of this drought affect us directly. When we have a drought, food security in the country is threatened because we have not produced enough to feed ourselves. Fortunately, for the past two seasons we accumulated huge reserves which accumulated at the time I personally introduced Command Agriculture.

But those reserves, with this current drought, have been exhausted and this is why we are now diverting all funds which had been targeted for capital projects to procure grain to feed the people. This then affects the implementation of developmental projects in the country because we need people to survive

Meanwhile, command agriculture has been infamous for gobbling 3 Billion dollars without producing tangible results. 8 million people in Zimbabwe are in need of food aid according to the United Nations.
