"Mbeki-Mediated Dialogue Between ZANU PF And MDC Is An MDC Wish Which Will Not Be Realised," ED Spokesperson

President Mnangagwa’s spokesperson, George Charamba has dismissed as false the claims that Mnangagwa is evading former South Africa President Thabo Mbeki.

His remarks come after opposition MDC leader, Nelson Chamisa said that the president was evading Mbeki who intended to mediate a dialogue between the MDC and ZANU PF.

He said that the president actually met with Mbeki on the sidelines of the African Union Summit in Addis Ababa and updated him on the developments in the country. He added:

By the way, there is a misconception to say that President Mbeki came to Zimbabwe to mediate between MDC and Zanu PF. That’s not true, it is actually a wish by the MDC which will not be realised.

The President has made it clear that the only available platform for national political dialogue is the Political Actors Dialogue. Anyone or everyone interested in engaging Zanu PF or any other party will do so within the context of Polad and no other platform.

These remarks are said when there have been calls from various quotas of society for Mnangagwa and Chamisa to come to the table over the socio-economic and political crises in the country.
