70 Megawatt Seke Solar Plant Set For Completion Before Year-end

Invest Solar Africa chief executive officer, Ainos Ngadya said the independent power producer (IPP) is constructing a 70 megawatts(MW) solar plant in Seke district, few kilometres outside Chitungwiza.

Ngadya told the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Energy and Power which was visiting the plant on Thursday that the plant is expected to be completed before year-end. He said:

We aim to produce 70 MW by year-end. We are going to be doing it in phases.

Ngadya told the Committee that the company was struggling to secure adequate foreign currency, and this could delay the completion of the project.

Meanwhile, Zimbabwe’s energy regulator, the Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA) has licenced more than 30 IPPs with a capacity to generate more than 5 000MW.
