Villagers Distressed After Dam Bursts Following Incessant Rains

Heavy rains in Matabeleland South province over the past few days resulted in the bursting of Fakanye Dam on Wednesday.

The dam is the only source of water for people of Silima Village in Mangwe, who are now at the end of their wits. A villager, Precious Ndlovu, told ZimLive:

It’s our only source of water we have in this area. We need urgent help to shore up the wall before we lose all the water, or at least get repairs completed before the rainy season ends.

Meanwhile, a truck carrying drought relief aid from the World Food Programme plunged into the muddy water at a narrow crossing on the fast-flowing Kawongo River.

The truck was headed for Nembudziya in Gokwe North and its cargo, mainly maize was destroyed.
