‘Mnangagwa Doesn’t Want To Talk To Mbeki Anymore’

MDC vice president Tendai Biti claimed that President Emmerson Mnangagwa is no longer taking phone calls from former South African President Thabo Mbeki.

Speaking to NewZimbabwe.com’s Agenda Programme on Monday in Harare, Biti said that when Mbeki visited Harare last year, Mnangagwa said he wanted to consult his party first before committing to dialogue, but has been silent since. Said Biti:

Emmerson is not interested in dialogue. President Mbeki was here in December. Emmerson said to President Mbeki he needed time to consult his party that was in December, we are now in February.

Mnangagwa is no longer even taking President Mbeki’s calls.

Mbeki visited Zimbabwe in December 2019 where he met both Mnangagwa and MDC leader Nelson Chamisa separately.

He also met with political leaders who are part of the Political Actors’ Dialogue (POLAD), a dialogue platform initiated by Mnangagwa last year but snubbed by Chamisa and other prominent opposition politicians.
