ZANU PF MP Partners With UK-Based Businessman To Donate Mealie-Meal

ZANU PF legislator for Bulawayo South, Rajeshkumar Indukant Modi and an England-based Zimbabwean businessman, Mr Jay Patel, donated 10 tons of mealie-meal to the marginalised groups in Bulawayo on Friday.

Themealie-meal was given to senior citizens, people with disabilities, orphans and widows in Tshabalala, Sizinda, Barham Green suburb, Ekuphumuleni Geriatric Nursing Home, John Smale (an orphanage) and Rhodes Jubilee Cottage (an old age home).

While Patel said that his gesture was inspired by Modi’s charitable work, Modi urged those who can to assist the underprivileged.  Mr Modi who is also the Deputy Minister of Industry and Commerce said:

What Mr Patel has done should be commended. We need more people like him to donate to the needy. We should all play a part to help our relatives. If you have more than you need, it is noble to share with a neighbour who has nothing or very little.
The donation comes at a time when there is an acute shortage of mealie-meal in the country following a poor agriculture season last year.
Authorities have since appealed to sympathisers, stakeholders and the international community to help and has at the same time bought maize from neighbouring Tanzania.
