"These Banal Activities Hide A Serious Deficit Of Strategy, Thrust And Focus..." - Biti Speaks As ED Conducts February Clean-Up Campaign

Former Finance Minister of Zimbabwe, Tendai Biti has said that the president Mnangagwa-led government has a drought of ideas and strategies on how to run the country.

He was commenting on the clean-up campaign which president Mnangagwa led in Banket this Friday. Biti who is the Vice President of the opposition MDC led by Nelson Chamisa posted on Twitter and said:

These banal activities hide a serious deficit of strategy, thrust & focus. When garbage becomes the epicentre of a regime, then the citizen is right to conclude that the garbage regime and its garbage policies must be shipped out as a matter of urgency!!

President Mnangagwa last year declared the first Friday of each calendar month, the National Environment Cleaning Day in an endeavour to ensure that the country has sustainable environment management and waste disposal systems.

The opposition MDC has been critical of the initiative since its inception until only recently when Chamisa urged party members to also participate in the event.

Some observers have been saying that the initiative is not sustainable and was highlighting poor service delivery by local government authorities who are supposed to be collecting garbage on a regular basis.
