'No Novel Coronavirus Case In Zimbabwe, Country Still Remains Safe' {Full Text}

Harare, 4 February 2020, An outbreak of a new respiratory virus, Novel coronavirus(2019-nCoV) has been reported from Wuhan city of Hubei Province in China.

The current state in Zimbabwe is that there is no Novel coronavirus case. The country still remains safe for travellers and screening continues at all points of entry into Zimbabwe.

All travellers from China and other 2019-nCoV are being screened. Currently, 266 people are being monitored after entering the country from China and other 2019-nCoV reporting countries.

The Ministry of Health Child Care continues to encourage those who planned to travel to China for non-essential purposes to defer their visit where possible until the outbreak has been declared over.

In the event that there has been a suspected case in Zimbabwe, the government has secured places of quarantine and is mobilising medicines for the treatment of the diseases at designated places across the country by trained personnel.

The Hon. Minister of Health and Child Care Dr Obadiah Moyo, Hon. Deputy Minister Dr John Mangwiro, Director of Epidemiology and Disease Control Dr Portia Manangazira, have visited RGM and Victoria Falls International Airports and still are visiting other ports of entry to confirm their preparedness.

All provinces and city health departments are on high alert and the public is hereby reassured that the national response mechanism has been activated for effective detection and management of any possible cases.

The Ministry of Health and Child Care would like to advise the public to ignore messages from unofficial sources circulating on social media.

The public is encouraged to continue taking preventative measures against the disease. Report any arrivals from China and other 2019-nCoV reporting countries to get assistance.
