Advocate Obert Gutu, the former Vice President of the MDC-T led by Dr Thokozani Khupe has said that the other MDC faction led by Nelson Chamisa (MDC-A)is missing out by avoiding the Political Actors Dialogue (POLAD) forum.
Gutu made the remarks while speaking to the Herald during a wide-ranging interview during which he suggested that the MDC was criticising the platform without fully understanding what it is intended to achieve. He said:
I think they are missing a huge opportunity to impact purposefully in the governance of this country because if you just lambast and trash POLAD without you understanding what it is about, it does not make sense to me and for any right thinking person. We are saying POLAD is for those political parties that had a Presidential candidate in the 2018 harmonised elections.
He added that MDC-A should have joined the platform and point out issues the party thinks need rectification as criticising the forum from outside is of no consequence.
Gutu also observed that although POLAD needed to be improved, it was conceptually “a brilliant opportunity for Zimbabwe to come together.”
MDC-A has vowed that it will not join the President Emmerson Mnangagwa-initiated POLAD which it describes as a circus.
