The Government Is Behind The Food Crisis: MDC

The country’s biggest opposition party has blamed the government for the current food crisis ravaging the country, Newsday reports.

MDC Alliance’s Thabitha Khumalo said the country was going through a dire food crisis because the government failed to mobilise both aid and resources to feed the nation after they received the warning that there will be a drought.

Speaking to party supporters in Bulawayo Khumalo said:

What is critical is that we needed to prepare for the drought. This drought was spoken about sometime last year because of the issue of global warming, but because they (authorities) do not care about us, we have these food shortages. For them, they will jump into the aeroplanes and enjoy themselves,” Khumalo said.

By now, we should be hearing that the Tshabalala silos are full, but I would be surprised if there is anything in the silos. They are abusing funds that are supposed to help the needy as they politicise them.

The Finance Minister last week, however, said they were making deals with grain sellers beyond the borders and food was being imported into the country.
