Zimbabwean-born Al Jazeera correspondent Haru Mutasa has drawn the ire of MDC leaders and supporters after she claimed that the party is similar to the ruling ZANU PF party.
ZANU PF has been blamed of ruining the “Jewel of Africa” in its 40 years in power through mismanaged, unbridled plunder, excessive corruption while it employs violence against political opponents during elections.
Writing on microblogging site Twitter, the well-travelled reporter said:

As a journalist my personal experience …. ruling party Zanu PF and main opposition MDC in Zimbabwe.
You are all the same, there is nothing different you offering people.
Prove me wrong with results we see on the ground not what all of you are doing now so dismally.
Below are some of the responses to Mutasa’s tweet:
Tendai Biti: Shame
MDC Secretary for Elections: This is unbelievable, we people maimed, killed, billions stolen, diamonds stolen, a coup conducted, and you see sameness. How insensitive do you have to be, How ahistorical for one who has recorded the bulk of it.
Mfundo Mlilo: A Party has ruined a nation for 40 years, killed thousands of people, destroyed an economy to pieces and ridicule and offers no hope at all to the suffering masses dying in hospitals every day and yet it’s at par with an opposition who mandate has been stolen.
Chipo Dendere: I don’t want to discount your personal experience because it matters but given how different the parties are (& your influence) it might be helpful to share examples of the similarities you allude to. In what ways are they similar or dissimilar?
Wasu Wepamuromo: U see kutadza kutonga kwe MDC isati yambotonga and fail to see kutadza kwe ZANU yaairi in power for the past 40 years.
Celebrated Woman: Explain their similarities and explain how the MDC has failed to run the government when they have never been in it.
