The opposition MDC Alliance has established an anti-corruption team – the Accountability and Integrity Panel (AIP) – headed by prominent lawyer Advocate Thabani Mpofu.
Addressing reporters in Harare on Friday, Mpofu said the anti-corruption panel will investigate possible corruption within the MCD Alliance-run Harare City Council and other party officials. Said Mpofu:
The work of the panel is not limited or circumscribed to local authorities; it cuts across the whole structure of the institution and deals with government at different and diverse levels.
Our duties and responsibilities shall be studiously executed without fear or favour and no sacred stone will be left unturned, not on a witch hunt but only seek to clean up the governance structures of impediments to proper effective delivery of services.
Earlier this week, party president Nelson Chamisa vowed to tackle corruption within the party head-on.
He made the pledge while delivering the MDC’s Agenda 2020 blueprint during a rally in Mbare, a high-density suburb in Harare.
