FULL THREAD: Mliswa Says People With Disabilities Should Have Seats In Parliament

Norton legislator (independent), Temba Mliswa has said that people with disabilities need to be empowered. His remarks come as disability activists are constantly saying that people with disabilities continue to be marginalised in independent Zimbabwe.

As their Advisor I met with the National Council of the Disabled Persons of Zimbabwe today and made a lot of resolutions. 1992 we were the first to adopt the Disabled Act but not much has happened up to now and we need to increase the tempo.

They should have seats in Parliament, whilst we need to implement what the Constitution of the country says about them and empower them by their having own schools.

A question I have up to today is how many disabled people perished in Cyclone Idai? They should also be a census to tally how many they are currently in the country so that measures to support them can be strategic and informed.
