WATCH: "IMFUNDO! NGEYETHU! AmaTEACHER! NGAWETHU!" Zimbabwean Students Stage Demo

Zimbabwean students from Njube High School have staged a demonstration over poor conditions for teachers and increment of school fees. They are calling for the intervention of UNICEF to help resolve the crisis.

In a video below, the students chant, “Imfundo Ngeyethu; AmaTeacher Ngawethu!” (Education is ours, Teachers are ours).

The demonstration comes barely a week after schools reopened for the first term of 2020. Teachers are on go slow whilst some have not even shown up for work citing incapacitation.

Teachers have since last year been complaining over “measly” salaries they are getting which they say have also been further eroded by the soaring inflation.

The Apex Council which represents government workers recently rejected the salary increment which the employer had offered saying that it was too insignificant given that the economy is inflationary.
