Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has named former Leicester City defender Harry Maguire as new club captain following the imminent departure of Ashley Young to Inter Milan. He said:
Harry has been wearing the captain’s armband and he will keep wearing it. He’s come in and been a leader in the group. I’ve been impressed by his leadership skills.
Everything about him tells me he’s a leader. He’s part of a group that we’ve had that have been leading this young group.
Solskjaer revealed that Young was offered a two-year contract by Inter and United was not able to match it because the winger-cum-fullback turns 35 in this coming summer.
Young had been captain since replacing Antonio Valencia in the summer.
