Zimbabwe Lawyers For Human Rights Refuse To Represent MDC's Hwende In Treason Case

The Secretary-General of the opposition MDC led by advocate Nelson Chamisa has revealed that Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights refused to represent him in his treason case.

He said that ZLHR refused to represent him for political reasons adding that he is a prisoner of the State who did not apply to be arrested. He tweeted:

We have now started the process of preparing for my upcoming Treason Trial. Mr Harrison Nkomo will be leading my defense and thanks to him for agreeing to represent me after @ZlHR refused to take up my matter. The reasons which are political will be revealed after the Trial

Hwende was arrested in March last year for his alleged role in the January protests which followed an unprecedented fuel price hike by the government.

It is alleged that Hwende incited violence by his tweet which he has since disowned saying that the State has no evidence to say the twitter account belongs to him.
