"Chiwenga’s Case Is Both Touching And Embarrassing For Zimbabwe," - NewsDay

A local Publication, News Day has said that the case of Vice President Constantino Chiwenga provokes empathy and at the same time is an embarrassment to Zimbabwe.

The publication notes that after serving in the army since the attainment of Independence 40 years ago, Chiwenga should have retired by now. News Day said:

Chiwenga’s case is, on the one hand, touching in that Chiwenga, at 63 years, should not only be enjoying his pension after serving in the national army since Zimbabwe gained independence in 1980 but enjoying the fruits of having helped liberate this country from colonial rule. On the other hand, his case is embarrassing because unwell as he is, should we not allow him to quietly fade out of the public glare and convalesce in peace?

In other jurisdictions including the United States of America, one’s health condition is of paramount significance when they want to hold public office.

Last year, Chiwenga seldom appeared in the public as he spent the good part of the year in Indian, South African and Chinese hospitals and when he was in Zimbabwe, he was on medication at his home.
