ZIMTA: Teachers Cannot Report For Duty For The 2020 First Term

Zimbabwe’s biggest teacher representative groups, the Zimbabwe Teachers Association (ZIMTA) says its members will not report for work when the first school term begins tomorrow, 14 January 2020.

The union posted a short message on microblogging site Twitter which reads:

This is indeed sad, to imagine that in this 20th Century, Zim Teachers are incapacitated and cannot turn up for duty, on 14 January 2020. SAD that the Teacher who should uphold the quality of education is incapacitated.

# Spare a thought for the incapacitated teacher

Last week, the government offered its workers a 97 % salary increment but this was immediately rejected by the Apex Council, which represents civil servants.

The Apex Council has demanded that the least paid government employee be paid an equivalent of US$475.

The government says it is financially incapacitated to meet civil servants’ demand.
