Gwisai: You Can't Continue Talking To People Who Aren't Listening

Leader of the International Socialist Organisation in Zimbabwe, Munyaradzi Gwisai has urged all Zimbabwean citizens to conduct a national shutdown as a form of resistance against the government’s austerity measures.

Gwisai argued that it is a waste of time to continue talking to the government as it has shown that it is not committed to dialogue. Said Gwisai:

We now need a united front of all victims of austerity to lead the resistance against austerity and the junta.

Students, workers, youths, vendors and the villagers … we have to learn the lesson that the late Morgan Tsvangirai, as secretary-general of ZCTU, learnt then that sometimes negotiations yield nothing. You can’t keep talking to people who are not listening.

There is no bigger army that the power of the workers and villagers.

The country’s economy has continued to deteriorate alarmingly since the November 2017 military coup that toppled longtime ruler Robert Mugabe.
