"The Power Of The People Will Rise As It Did In Egypt," Treason Accused Job Sikhala

Job Sikhala, the Vice-Chairperson of the opposition MDC led by Nelson Chamisa has said that no matter how powerful the state machinery is, the people will eventually revolt and overthrow the “oppressor”.

Sikhala whose subversion case is pending in courts says he believes radicalism opposed to gradualism was the most effective way to deal with President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s administration. He said:

One day I believe the people of Zimbabwe, the power of the people will rise.

We might be frightened, the regime might assault people in their homes and using machete-wielding gangs but when people power comes, it will happen.

President Mnangagwa’s government has always been accused of using sheer force on civilians particularly members of the opposition MDC, civil society leaders and human rights defenders.

Last year, a number of people were reportedly abducted and tortured by unknown people suspected to be state security agents. The state says there is a third force behind the attacks.
