Army And Police Deployed To Contain Machete Gangs Reportedly Assaulting Innocent Civilians

Soldiers and police who were deployed to arrest the notorious Machete gangs are reportedly assaulting members of the public in Kwekwe which is reportedly infested by the gangs.

This was revealed by Redcliff legislator, Lloyd Mukapiko, who said that he was receiving reports suggesting that innocent civilians were being assaulted with some sustaining severe injuries. He added:

Whilst it is commendable that the army and the police have been deployed to try and contain the machete gangs in the area, it is, however, concerning that they are also assaulting innocent civilians in the process.

The MDC legislator called for an end to the indiscriminate beating of innocent civilians saying the soldiers and police should focus on catching the real culprits.

Machete gangs popularly known as Mashurugwi or Al Shabab have been roaming around gold mining towns beating, killing and sexually abusing miners and civilians.
