CHAMISA: "We Need To Promote SMART Policies To Make The Best Of Rains We Receive"

Leader of the opposition MDC, Nelson Chamisa has said that Zimbabwe needs to make the best of the rains it is receiving.

He posted on Twitter after rains have fallen in some parts of Zimbabwe following a long dry spell which could have resulted in crops withering had the rains not come sooner. He said:

There is nothing sweeter than rain. We thank God for HIS providence. In our duty as stewards of nature, we need to promote SMART policies: water harvesting, climate change adaptation, drought-resistant agriculture & a commitment to long term sustainable development.

His remarks are a strong redolent of remarks by farmers who have been calling for the adoption of smart agriculture to avoid drought and famine.

Zimbabwe is facing yet another severe starvation this year as experts have forecasted that the rains will not be adequate to sustain the farming season.
