A US Air raid a few hours ago killed  Iran’s head of Iran’s elite Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and architect of its regional security apparatus General Qassem Soleimani, Aljazeera reports.

Soleimani was killed after a Donald Trump sanctioned attack was carried out by rockets that destroyed 2 vehicles carrying high profile guests just before daybreak today.

Iraqi militia commander Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis also died in the raid and Iran has declared a 3-day mourning in honour of General Qassem Soleimani

Iran’s Foreign Minister Javad Zarif described the attack as an act of international terrorism. while Iran’s leader said “vigorous revenge is waiting for the criminals”

The attack occurred exactly 2 days after protesters breached the United States’s Embassy in Baghdad. Protestors were responding to another attack that had killed 25 people of the Hashd al-Shaabi group.
