SA Journalist Kidnapped In Syria In 2017 Finally Reunited With Family

South African photojournalist who was kidnapped in Syria in  2017 has finally been reunited with his family.

When Shiraaz Mohamed was captured near the Turkish border by suspected members of the Islamic State group, he was working for the charity Gift of the Givers, documenting the effects of the civil war.

His family revealed that he was now back home adding that they would give more details later.

South Africa’s Foreign Affairs Ministry confirmed his return and told the AFP news agency that the government had been working tirelessly for the release Mr Mohamed. The ministry’s spokesperson, Lunga Ngqengelele added:

That he is finally home is something we are really really happy about.
