Former Finance Minister, Tendai Bit who is also the vice president of the opposition MDC led by Nelson Chamisa has revealed the party’s key targets for the new year.
He posted on Twitter on the New Year and said that the transformation of Zimbabwe remained an essential target. He said:
The central mission of democratic change & transformation for Zim remains 2020’s key target. Five key objectives for democrats will be the following
1) Resolving crises of legitimacy through democratic pressure
2) Pursuit of agenda of comprehensive socio-political reforms.
3)Restoration of macroeconomic stability& economic turnaround
4) Restoration social services & social security nets
5) Defense of the constitution against regime s caprices. Courage of conviction &sacrifice key in establishing consensus & implementation of disruptive agenda
His remarks come when the country’s democratic space has been shrinking recently, contrary to what the nation had anticipated when President Emmerson Mnangagwa rose to power in 2017.
Zimbabwe is also in a socio-economic crisis which is characterised by inflation, a huge deficit in fuel, electricity, foreign currency and cash.
