“Let’s Come Together And Create A Healthier Zimbabwe,” Higherlife Foundation Launch Crowdfunding Initiative

Higherlife Foundation has launched a crowdfunding initiative to mobilise resources to support public health institutions.

In a statement, the foundation founded by Econet Wireless chairman and founder Strive Masiyiwa and his wife Tsitsi said:

We are one nation, let’s stand together to save lives. What is a nation without a good healthcare system? Let’s come together and makes it possible for lives to be saved. Let’s come together and create a healthier Zimbabwe.

The Foundation recently announced that it will be supporting caregivers with a number of services including transportation and salaries with Econet subsidiaries having already pledged money and other resources needed.

The initiative is launched when the country’s public health sector is grounded due to lack of equipment, medicines and the situation was worsened by the industrial action which started on the 3rd of September over unsustainable salaries and poor working conditions.

  1. On the surface this sounds like a good idea. But on deeper reflection, crowdfunding is drawing on the public’s sympathy to bail the government out of its responsibility. Strive is trying to rectify a situation by bypassing the government. Who will donate to the crowdfunding? Taxpayers of course and the government sits back chuckling that it can continue on its mismanagement and corruption. Maybe Strive should convince his fellow billionaires to voluntarily commit $X million to the treasury on a regular basis. The solution lies in fixing the economy as ED promised when he ‘ursurped’ power. He needs to dialogue without conditions. What has POLAD achieved so far? But dialogue with MDC could well bring about results. What hope of atrracting investors when Matemadanda utters that ZANU PF will never reliquish power and if the ballot suggests otherwise, the party will use whatever means necessary to remain in power. And Strive wants us to support such maniacs.
