"All Citizens Must Benefit From Resources In Their Respective Communities." - ED Speaks On Devolution

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has emphasised the need for the decentralisation of government through devolution saying that every citizen must benefit from resources and programmes in their communities.

Speaking at the ZANU PF Annual People’s Conference which ends this Sunday at Goromonzi High School in Mashonaland East, Mnangagwa said:

All our citizens must benefit from the resource endowments of their respective communities.

The people must know that the party and Government will continue to support the empowerment and employment of the youth, women, SMEs (small and medium enterprises), veterans of our liberation struggle and people with disabilities, among others.

His remarks come as studies have divulged that despite abundant mineral resources around the country, the indigenous communities living close to the mines, such as those in Manicaland, Matebeleland and Midlands have been deprived of the right to directly or indirectly benefit from the mineral resources which are used to develop other areas, particularly Harare and Mashonaland.

Also despite Zimbabwe launching the Community Share Ownership Trusts scheme and empowerment to develop mainly rural communities through providing infrastructures including vocational training centres, schools and clinics, these communities remain extremely poor which is not commensurate with the large volumes of resources taken from them.
