FULL THREAD: Chamisa Responds To ED’s Removal Of Chief Ndiweni

The leader of the opposition MDC, Nelson Chamisa has castigated the removal of a traditional leader, Chief Ndiweni from his traditional role saying the institution of traditional leaders and its independence should be protected.

His remarks come after President Emmerson Mnangagwa removed the outspoken leader from his post. Chamisa posted on Twitter saying:

The persecution of Chief Ndiweni is unacceptable. An attack on a chief is an attack on a people, culture and heritage. The chieftainship is rooted in a people’s identity not vindictive partisan politics and undue interference. Smith tried it but Rhodesia ultimately failed &fell.

The institution of traditional leaders & its independence should be protected thru the framework defined in the constitution. Traditional leaders serve a vital purpose in preserving our cultural heritage, must not be used against the people they represent to silence genuine concerns

The government should play no role in the appointment of traditional leaders, but such processes should be determined by the traditions of the local community.

A rightful leader cannot be imposed on a people. Our call for genuine reforms driven by the people’s agenda must keep growing louder & force institutional change. It is not the role of government to impose itself on the people.

  1. Foolish mnangagwa dofo repolitics i have never seen a fool like mnangagwa thats why zim cannot be right this foolish president in position of authority cannot fire a chief instead he must fire himself and his soldiers the zimbabwean president is a terrorist

  2. Does it means you have to support Zanupf if you want to be a chief . There’s no democracy in Zimbabwe . Maybe Zanupf think they own Zimbabwe . Problem there haven’t been a change in my beloved country. The day year or month zanupf gets out of power that will be the end . My heart boils if I think of Zanupf . Iam ready to fight zanupf

  3. It took us years to be rid of Smith how may years will it take to be rid of ZanuPf!!! Let’s be smarter then them otherwise we will be just like them. We must be proud of ourselves before bowing down to any despot otherwise we lose.

  4. Ndiweni chieftainship was beset with controversy from the word go. At his clan level the chieftainship was challenged by his brother from inception. Go to high court records. He also seem to have grabbed the chieftainship to attack gvt so to say. Chiefs are apolitical. But in Zimbabwe they are not of cause . ndiweni became loud mouthed because he knew he would loose the chieftainship to his brother. So if that happens he would get sympathy from public opposition as what is happening. Go fund chief ndiweni kkkkkk. Has now been achieved isn’t it.
