'SADC Anxious Over Zimbabwe's Socio-Economic Deterioration' - Commentator

A political commentator, Rashweat Mukundu, said South Africa has sent a clear message to President Emmerson Mnangagwa to bury the hatchet with his rival MDC leader Nelson Chamisa for the country’s good.

Mukundu opined that there is growing anxiety among SADC leaders about the growing socio-economic deterioration in Zimbabwe. Said Mukundu:

First, it was the South African Minister for International Relations (Naledi Pandor) who called for the political leaders to reach a common position for the region to be able to help.

Now, we are seeing the president (Cyril Ramaphosa) himself calling for more or less the same thing.

It will take someone who is completely deaf to continue to ignore these messages.

Last month South Africa’s International Relations Minister Naledi Pandor said that that political polarisation in Zimbabwe is stifling progress in the country and characterised the situation as “one of the most challenging” economic situations in Southern Africa.

Recently South Africa’s President Cyril Rmaphosa held a meeting with church leaders where he recognised with appreciation the efforts of the churches in finding a lasting solution to Zimbabwe’s challenges through dialogue.
