Mliswa Won't Seek Re-election 'In Order To Make Money'

Norton legislator Temba Mliswa said he will not seek re-election in 2023 to allow him to focus on making money as it is not possible to do so when is serving as a Member of Parliament.

Speaking to NewsDay on Tuesday, Mliswa claimed that he has neither drawn from his salary allowances nor received parliamentary vehicles since 2013. He said:

For now, I have made my mark and I also want to make money. You don’t make money by being a Member of Parliament.

I have not even drawn my salary or allowances since 2013 and I have never received parliamentary vehicles and I’m one of those who didn’t go to Parliament to make money.

Mliswa also suggested that MDC leader Nelson Chamisa will take over as national leader when President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s second term comes to an end in 2028.

ZANU PF national spokesperson Simon Khaya Moyo however, dismissed Mliswa’s succession remarks, saying he (Mliswa) should not be taken seriously as he cannot judge on behalf of all citizens, after all, he represents a small constituency.
