Masiyiwa Reveals New Plan To Support Zimbabwe’s Grounded Public Hospitals

Econet founder, Dr Strive Masiyiwa has availed a new plan on which he intends to support the collapsed public health sector in Zimbabwe.

This comes after Masiyiwa through Higherlife Foundation run by his wife, Tsitsi Masiyiwa recently unveiled a package for striking health caregivers in public health institutions.

Higherlife Foundation announced a Z$10 million grant for the new campaign this Thursday saying that the‘Support Our Hospital’ campaign will seek to secure essential resources for hospitals. The foundation CEO Kennedy Mubaiwa said:

This initiative seeks to ensure that we resource our hospitals with the essential tools for the trade for doctors.

We are looking at a start-up kit for doctors that includes diagnostics sets, protective clothing, blood pressure machines, cannulas and most importantly, essential drugs and medicines critical to saving lives.

While Econet Wireless Zimbabwe Group has unveiled Z$10 million and smartphones to be used by doctors, worth an additional Z$1.5 million, the company’s subsidiaries have pledged to offer assistance.

Distributed Power Africa (DPA), Econet’s renewable energy arm, is to offer solar energy to selected public hospitals and clinics while Liquid Telecom will provide web connectivity, Vaya would provide free transport for doctors and nurses, along with water deliveries to some major public hospitals.
