Price Of Mealie Meal To Fall Next Week - Grain Millers

The price of mealie meal is expected to fall next week after millers started to receive maize at a subsidised price from the Grain Marketing Board (GMB).

Grain Millers Association of Zimbabwe (GMAZ) Public Relations Manager, Garikai Chaunza had this to say:

I would like to inform the nation that starting from next week the prices of roller meal will start to flop as a result of the agreement which was made by the government and GMAZ.

In his 2020 national budget statement, Minister of Finance and Economic Development Mthuli Ncube announced that grain products will no longer be subsidised by the government, with the price for a 10-kilogramme bag rising to $100 as a result.

However, a few days later, Ncube reversed the decision and announced that the price of the commodity should be slashed to $50.
