Obsolete Water Services Infrastructure To Blame For The Water Crisis - Harare Town Clerk

City Of Harare Town Clerk Hosiah Chisango claims ageing water equipment is the major reason for the current water crisis ZimMorning post reports. Morton Jaffray was reportedly constructed in 1952 to cater for 300K people, now Harare has over 4 Million people.

Mr Chisango was speaking at the Greater Harare Water Institutional Options Review workshop when he said:

The deferment of maintenance has resulted in the deterioration of the water services infrastructure, which in turn has impacted on service delivery.

High climatic variability was one of the major challenges facing Harare in the management of water resources; rainfall is an unpredictable variable. In the past ten years we have had unpredictable rain seasons.

However, in October, the city fathers shut down Morton Jaffray Waterworks because they couldn’t secure foreign currency to buy treatment chemicals.
