Sanna Marin Becomes Finland Prime Minister Aged 34
While most African countries have increasingly become male-dominated gerontocracies, Finland will have a new 34-year-old female Prime Minister, Sanna Marin.
Marin is to become the world’s youngest Prime Minister after she was picked by her Social Democratic party. The party’s leader, Antti Rinne, quit as PM after losing the confidence of a coalition member over his handling of a postal strike.
She will be sworn in this week and lead a centre-left coalition with four other parties, all headed by women, three of whom are below 35 years of age.
Marin will be the world’s youngest sitting prime minister and the third female prime minister in the Nordic country.
