Herentals In Match-fixing Storm

The Premier Soccer League (PSL) has summoned relegation-threatened side Herentals FC to appear before its disciplinary committee to answer to allegations of match-fixing.

The allegations were raised following the club’s 3-0 win over Black Rhinos in October when a club official, Oliver Chirenga reportedly bribed the army side’s manager, Gift Kamuriwo with a US$600, which he was supposed to give to his players.

As a result, the PSL has charged Herentals for breaching Article 31.1.3 of the PSL Rules and Regulations on acts of misconduct and offence which reads:

Its players, officials, servant or duly authorised (expressed or implied) representatives, for any corrupt, dishonesty or lawful purpose in connection with a game played under auspices of the league, or in connection with the affairs of the league, give, offer or promise, whether directly or indirectly, any inducement, reward or bribe of whatsoever nature, to anybody whatsoever.

Chirenga is also being charged for breaching Article 31.2.2 which prohibits officials from offering bribes directly or indirectly “… of whatsoever nature, to anybody whomsoever.”

Black Rhinos conceded three goals in the opening 10 minutes, and all the goals were scored by Blessing Majarira.

The bribery plot came to light when a Rhinos player informed coach Herbert Maruwa.
