"Prevailing Socioeconomic Challenges Affecting Ratepayers' Capacity To Pay ," MDC Councillor

Harare Ward 16 councillor, Denford Ngadziore has said that the deteriorating state of affairs is hampering revenue mobilisation by Harare City Council which in turn result in poor service delivery.

Ngadziore made these remarks while addressing residents on Saturday at a feedback meeting dubbed State of the Ward Address, where he said that service delivery was poor since ratepayers were not forthcoming lately as they are now incapacitated. He said:

The status of our finances has not been very much pleasing. Generally, the macroeconomic environment has posed some challenges to the city and residents thereby reducing their capacity to pay.

Ngadziore’s remarks come when the country is submerged under a socioeconomic crisis characterised by inflation and a huge deficit in electricity, foreign currency, and fuel.

Local government authorities have been failing to provide expected public goods often citing inadequacy of resources.
