Doctors Skeptical About Strive Masiyiwa's Sincerity

Senior Hospital Doctors Association secretary-general Aaron Musara said doctors have not rejected Strive Masiyiwa’s offer he recently made through his charity organisation, Higherlife Foundation.

Speaking in an interview with Daily News on Sunday reporter Nokuthaba Nkomo, Musara said doctors are waiting for the government to resolve the other outstanding issues, and if Masiyiwa was sincere and not being used by the government, he will come back with the offer. Said Musara:

Strive Masiyiwa’s offer through Higher-Life Foundation was not rejected. It was brought in, in a bullish way against all the on-going negotiations and only directed at solving one of the three problems which we have clearly stated needed immediate attention.

… if Higherlife Foundation’s offer was sincere and meant truly to be for doctors rather than a government Trojan against incapacitation then they will offer it again once the issues are resolved.

If not, then their intentions will have been exposed and doctors will not trust them again.

Senior doctors at public health institutions joined their juniors who embarked on a strike on September 3 this year. The government responded by summarily dismissing 448 doctors from the public service before Masiyiwa offered $100 million to deal with their incapacitation.
